I started in SEO in 2013 as an unpaid intern at a digital marketing agency in South Delhi. The stipend was modest, the kind where you are basically trading money for learning. That is exactly what I did. Over the next decade, I worked my way through travel SEO, wedding and events, and eventually built my own practice from the ground up. I am still here because the results kept me here.
My Journey
Every stage of my career taught me something the previous one could not. The intern who learned fast. The executive who proved results under pressure. The manager who owned the strategy. And finally the consultant who answers only to the results.
I started with a near-zero stipend at a digital marketing agency in South Delhi. The money was negligible. I was there to learn. Six months in, I had learned fast enough to get my first real job offer.
Travel SEO does not forgive mistakes. I spent two and a half years handling tough keywords, bigger stakes, and earning more as I proved my results. Competitive niches teach you discipline that easy industries never can.
A completely different world: location targeting, seasonal spikes, online reputation management. Stepping into management meant owning the strategy entirely, not just executing it. Two years prepared me for going independent.
June 2017. For the first time my income was not capped by someone else's budget. Within the first year I was earning more than I ever had in a salary. That confirmed what I already suspected: going solo was the right call. I have been building Sandeep Mehta SEO Company ever since.

How I Work
After 10+ years I have stopped trying to be different for the sake of it. What I have realised is most SEO problems are not technical. They are about patience and honesty. That is the conversation most consultants in Delhi avoid because it is uncomfortable to tell a client this will take 6 months.
Clients come to me with a list of keywords they want to rank for. Half of them are wrong for their business. Maybe the volume looks good but the intent does not convert. Maybe Google is showing shopping ads and maps there and organic can barely breathe. My first job is to protect your budget from vanity metrics. Most consultants just take the brief and run with it. I push back.
A lot of SEO consultants celebrate when a page hits position 1. I have been doing this long enough to know that is where the real questions start. Why is it not converting? Is the page slow on mobile? Does the content match what the user actually expected? Ranking is step one. I stay invested in what happens after.
Every time there is a core update, clients panic and agencies scramble. I have lived through Panda, Penguin, Hummingbird, RankBrain, and Helpful Content, all of it. When you have seen enough updates, you stop reacting and start recognising patterns. The sites that got hit were almost always cutting corners somewhere. Clean work does not panic.
Early in my career I used to present DA scores and backlink counts to clients. They did not care and they were right not to. Now I talk in terms of how many more enquiries this can realistically generate, which locality to target first for fastest traction, and what your competitor ranking above you actually does better. That shift in language changes everything.
This one surprises people. Sometimes a client comes to me and their real problem is that their website cannot convert anyone, their pricing is off, or they are in a space where paid ads will outperform organic by a mile in their timeline. I would rather tell you that upfront than take a 6-month retainer and deliver rankings that do not move the needle for your business. That kind of honesty builds trust and it is why clients come back.
